Getting Around Kamphaeng Phet
Kamphaeng Phet sits on Highway 1 between Bangkok (5 hours by bus) and Chiang Mai (4 hours). Buses run to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok (1.5 hours), and Tak (1 hour). No airport -- the nearest is Phitsanulok (100km). Motorbike rental (2,000-2,500 THB/month) is essential for reaching the Historical Park and surrounding countryside. The city is compact and walkable around the Ping River area.

Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (jointly listed with Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai) featuring well-preserved 14th-century ruins. Unlike crowded Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet's ruins are peaceful and uncrowded, set among mature tamarind trees.
